A GIFT TO KEEP IF WE GIVE IT AWAY ?

We receive THE GIFT of a daily reprieve from our active addictions and in return all we have to do
is everything...

We are asked to go into action from suggestions.

We are asked to follow instructions

We ask HOW...and we are told H. O. W.

Be Honest, Open (As In Your Mind)& Be Willing.

And then to give all that back thru our actions and our shares so we can keep it.

IT IS A SPIRITUAL PATH WE SEEK

We seek gudiance from a Higher Power...I call that GOD...You call him/her what you will.

The important thing is that we entrust our wills and our lives to a power greater than ourselves.

We have already seen where our best thinking took us.,and that same thinking is willing to take us there again.

"Today I have arrested my physical addiction by not using or drinking...and I know in my heart that my chronic dis-ease has progressed to a point where I can never be like people who do not have this disease and that any use will give this condition a reason to take everything in my life that is dear to me and allow me to die by my own hand."

We are deceived in our heart by the beilief that we can drink and drug again because of our spiritual bankruptcy...We Must Change...and we do this by practicing on going surrender by our attendance in the fellowship and our sponsors, and understanding of GOD.

IT'S ALL ABOUT US

Selfishness, self-centeredness!
That, we think, is the root of our troubles. Driven by a hundred forms of fear, self- delusion, self-seeking, and self-pity, we step on the toes of our fellows and they retaliate. Sometimes they hurt us, seemingly without provocation, but we invariably find that at some time in the past we have made decisions based on self which later placed us in a position to be hurt.

So our troubles, we think, are basically of our own making. They arise out of ourselves, and the alcoholic/addict is an extreme example of self-will run riot, though he usually doesn't think so. Above everything, we alcoholics must be rid of this selfishness. We must, or it kill us! God makes that possible. And there often seems no way of entirely getting rid of self without His aid. Many of us had moral and philosophical convictions galore, but we could not live up to them even though we would have liked to. Neither could we reduce our self-centeredness much by wishing or trying on our own power. We had to have God's help.

This is the how and the why of it. First of all, we had to quit playing God. It didn't work. Next, we decided that hereafter in this drama of life, God was going to be our Director. He is the Principal; we are His agents. He is the Father, and we are His children. Most Good ideas are simple, and this concept was the keystone of the new and triumphant arch through which we passed to freedom.

WE MAY NOT HAVE ANOTHER CHANCE

The fact is that most alcoholics /addicts, for reasons yet obscure, have lost the power of choice in drink. Our so called will power becomes practically nonexistent. We are unable, at certain times, to bring into our consciousness with sufficient force the memory of the suffering and humiliation of even a week or a month ago. We are without defense against the first drink or drug.
